Being a modern sales leader means leading with empathy. When I started my career, sales was a total boys club. The prevailing management philosophy could be described as "sink or swim", and that may even be too generous.

Heading into 2024, the best sales leaders care deeply about their team and do everything they can to get the best out of them. This means meeting with them regularly just to catch up, even in a remote-first environment. It means seeking constant feedback, both on your own leadership style and the strategy you are working to implement. It means finding out what motivates people, and doing everything you can to help them reach their goals.

Being a modern sales leader also means adapting to the times. This may mean recognizing how AI tools can make our work more efficient, without losing the human touch. It means evolving your strategy based on the macro environment. In 2021, our marching orders were "grow at all costs." Now, everything is about efficiency and maximizing value.

A modern sales leader pivots with the times and recognizes that what worked yesterday may not work tomorrow.
